A day at the Farmers Market

All this nice weather is making me itchy to plant but I cant. I'm moving soon and I'm not putting in all that for someone else to reap. So off I went today to the Farmers Market in the next town. I don't like our market here . They do it 4pm on Thursdays. Now who picked that date and time? Were they drunk? Even worse they don't do it all yr round like the other one does. And do you know why? Because it gets hot here......damn hot in the summer. So some idiot decides to make it 4pm, the hottest part of our summer days? I went once or twice then. Not only was it near impossible to not pass out from the heat but the parking sux. Things are wilted and melting if you don't get there when it opens. So I pass on that one and go to the next towns which is Sat. mornings. It gets hot there too in the summer..........they just must have smarter people there running their show lol.

So while its early in the season for some things, I did get some herbs, arugula and lettuce and some shallots. And big bear claw to have with my coffee while I'm posting this blog. I didn't stay long......got there around 11pm and it was getting picked over and some were almost empty. Thank God I wore a sweater, while its nice and sunny there's a cold breeze blowing...brrrr. So here's my day.....

There were exotic flowers..........

And bouquets of all kinds...............

And an area that sold plants of all kinds.....

And some herbs too.........

There were of course lots of veggies........this one says fresh garlic but it sure looks like green onions to me....

Now this one has onions and I like this kind. Its right from the garden, fresh with the stems still on. I would have bought some but I just bought a big bag at Costco and need to use them up first.

They sell nuts of all kinds..........one stand even has flavored nuts you can taste test....

Many were selling strawberries.......

And tomatoes altho these are vine ones just like you get in the store...its too early for the good ones.....

And I just love this display........look at the different colors of cauliflower. I almost bought some but I couldn't decide between this guy and the one selling the baby cauliflowers.....

Look at the gorgeous golden beets on top there........and artichokes and oh my the whole thing looks yummy......

I used to grow Chard.......wish my bf liked it. I don't know why he doesn't, he loves spinach. Look at the rainbow of colors it comes in tho. Imagine making a dish this colorful....

And I always stop at this stand. They always have lots of fresh herbs at reasonable prices and many Oriental veggies too. Near the middle of that picture, they are selling big bunches of dandelion greens even. I always find interesting things there. And in the summer basil is $1 a hugeeeeeeee bunch. That's when I buy several and make pesto and freeze it.

But you can find all kinds of things at this Farmers Market ....like.................PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!

It was very crowded so I guess everyone has the itch for spring but I hate when its like that. Its so hard to get near things to see them so sometimes I just pass stuff by. And whats with old ladies just cutting right in front of you even when you have your camera ready for a shot? .........sigh.......nobody has manners anymore. So its kind of annoying to shop here but I guess that's everywhere. At least I got some sunshine and fresh air. :)

Looks like a nice market, the strawberries look wonderful. My city's farmers market is Fri 3-6 so I never get to go.

My gosh, stop making me so hungry! All the juicy fresh vegetables- and root vegetables- why do I find root vegetables so pretty? There's something so hearty and dependable about them, I think, sensual in their simplicity :) Thank you for sharing a market with us- I enjoyed the escape
